Kaomoji — copy and paste cute Japanese text faces

Kaomoji are Japanese text faces such as (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶), (╥﹏╥) and ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ, read straight on rather than sideways like :). They are built from letters, punctuation and symbols of many scripts, so they paste as plain text into a TikTok or Instagram bio, a game name or a message.

Where these are accepted

Tested per field — the honest version
App / field Decoration Limit Last tested What actually happens
TikTok username (@handle) Rejected / stripped 2–24 characters August 2026 Letters, numbers, underscore and dot only, and it cannot start or end with a dot. Decorated characters are rejected outright.
TikTok display name Accepted No decoration limit found August 2026 Accepts symbols, kaomoji and decorated combos. This is the field every "TikTok font" guide actually means.
Instagram bio & name Accepted Both fields accept decoration August 2026 Bio and display name both take decorated characters. The @username does not.
Game display names (Roblox, Free Fire) Rejected / stripped Emoji stripped; text marks usually pass Not tested in-game Colour emoji are stripped from most in-game name fields, while plain marks — ⋆ ★ 𐙚 ୨୧ ✧ — usually survive. Each game runs its own private filter and changes it without notice, so use the rename preview before you confirm.
Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp Accepted Long combining stacks may be trimmed August 2026 Display names and messages accept the full range. Very long combining stacks may be trimmed in narrow layouts.

Platform filters are undocumented and change without notice, so we re-test rather than copy forward — see how we curate and verify.

Kaomoji, also written kaomojis or cute kaomoji in searches, are the faces people use when an emoji feels too plain: a blush ˶, a tiny mouth ᵕ, or a pair of crying eyes ╥ ╥. Because they are text, they keep the colour of your words and work in places that strip colour emoji.

The grid above holds hundreds of kaomoji to copy; the mood groups below add more, and the table explains what the most common pieces really are.

How to use kaomoji

  • Messages: a face after a sentence sets its tone, as in “see you tomorrow (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)”.
  • Bio and display name: one short face per line keeps it readable.
  • Game names: short text faces usually survive where emoji are stripped; test the name first.
  • Comments: a kaomoji softens a short reply.
Shorter is safer: a three- or four-character face such as ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ fits name fields and character limits better than a long one with arms and effects.

Kaomoji by mood

Kaomoji are easiest to pick by mood. Each group below is a different set from the main grid, so you get more faces to choose from.

What kaomoji means

Kaomoji (顔文字) is Japanese for “face characters”: kao means face and moji means character. Unlike Western emoticons such as 🙂 that you read sideways, a kaomoji is read straight on, which is why the eyes sit side by side, as in (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶).

Kaomoji meaning: Japanese kao (face) plus moji (character)
Kao (face) + moji (character): a face read straight on.

Kaomoji are built from letters, punctuation and symbols of many writing systems. A few of the most common pieces, with names read from the Unicode Character Database (we have not yet checked this new page on each device):
